"Waiting"
Chief White Feather stood waiting
With his braves, proud and tall
For a sign from "Great Spirit"
Being their Leader, it was His call
He, held the years of their lives
And the blessings, He would bestow
They looked upward, toward the skies
When He answered. . .They would know
They listened for His voice in the wind
With clean hands, and straight eyes. . .
Asking for wisdom and knowledge
Against the white man. . . His truth or lies
Grandfather, Great Spirit" they prayed
You are older than all prayer
All things belong to you, the earth
The air, signs of you. . . Are everywhere
You have set your powers, on earth
The earth, we know, is our mother
We are waiting for a sign, Grandfather
Is it war, or peace with our brother?
We have been prisoners in our land
You help us cross difficult roads. . .
You see our plight, you understand
Please unloosen. . .These heavy loads
We wait, Oh Great Spirit. . . To hear
We wish to abide in all your ways
Ruler of land, earth, fire and air
Holder of our lives, day after day!
