One Cat's Opinion
(A conversation with Tigger)
Meowsers, meowsers
don't like bow-wowsers.
They know the lion is king.
Not like that darn rascal--
the pesky jackal--
who could learn a lesson in stature
from the elegant Sphynx.
There are no canine monuments attesting
to the prominence of an ancient poodle named Jinx.
Lions come in prides,
Wolves come in packs.
Cats have more dignity inside,
Dogs are lackeys who follow tracks.
Cats are particular and well-groomed.
Dogs are often chased from the room.
Dogs are flea-bitten varmints, mutts, curs, strays.
Cats are poor unfortunate fellows,
so why not let them stay?
All this and more was told to me today
by my wise and whiskered friend.
Who assured me that cats never barked,
or went out of their way to offend.
I answered him:
"Dear fellow, every creature has its purpose.
For you and I are best friends, I'd never put you in the circus!"
He paused, and thought, then cocked his ear,
his eyes grew large and wide...
"I guess," he said, " there must be some truth in this,
though in dogs I cannot abide.
Dogs must get lonely too, and a good friend can never be
under-rated.
But don't bring one of those creatures home, dear,
or I'll have to be sedated."
