Age of ChangeWas life as basic as we remember it to be, Making up our games, being simple and free, Playing safe in the street, only an occasional car, Staying close to home, never venturing too far, Some songs on the "wireless", black and white tv, Collecting eggs from nests high in a tree, Weekend walks or family trips to the park, Being called back to the house before it got dark, Few houses had phones, so we visited instead, For Sunday roast dinner with home made bread, No-one cooked meals like my gran used to do, She even cooked extra for the doggy bag too, My bicycle and billycart were used to the full, Depends what you carried if you pushed it or pull, Weekends were spent doing running repairs, The fixing of punctures were frequent affairs, No dvds or videos, no music on CD's, Camcorders would sound like a tropical disease, Laptop computers you can carry around, With limitless information easily found, Changes keep happening at an accelerated pace, We're now talking to each other in cyber-space, Ships floating on air, back then would be daft, Until along came Cockerell with his hover-craft, Sputniks and satellites, the space race to come, Seeing men on the moon, a universe to roam, Now satellite roaming as we drive round town, Being spied on from space, any location found, Enjoy cooking on the range, eating meat off the bone, Now suspicious of mutton it could be Dolly the clone, Feeding hungry mouths made mum a slave, Now meals come ready from a microwave, A digital world means life will become faster. With new technology becoming harder to master, The children of today take it all as they find, Older generations fear being left behind, Times are changing nothing ever stands still, New gadgets invented and appearing at will, Our houses are full with every modern device, But to read the instruction, wouldn't that be nice Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
