Freed From Prison

Peter was bound in prison
Persecution was the reason
Between two guards he slept
With Herod's orders to be kept

Suddenly an angel appeared
Quick, get up, he clearly heard
A light shined brightly in the cell
Chains came off his wrists and fell

He said to get dressed, so Peter did
Then follow him where he was led
Peter thought he was seeing a vision
But it was God's plan of intervention

Passed the guards and to the gate too
It opened by itself and they go through
When they had walked down one street
The angel left, as quickly as they did meet

Then it dawned on Peter without a doubt
He knew God sent an angel to get him out
Immediately he had to tell all of the others
He went to Mary's house, John's mother

Peter knocked at the door, but no one came
Rhoda sees who it is and calls out his name
Praying, they say it must be his angel and ignore
Peter keeps knocking, finally they open the door

He motions for them to be quiet and shares
How God had spared him from prison there
He said to tell the rest that he was now free
Facing danger, he left for a safe place to be

The next morning when Herod finds out
He questions the guards, filled with doubt
In his anger, orders the guards to be slain
Knowing he could never trust them again

Based on Acts 12:1-19a
