Loving Enemies
It was said as you have heard,
In accordance to the Word;
Taking an eye for an eye,
Cutting a tongue for a lie.
But I say not to oppose,
A person that you suppose;
Does evil for causing hurt,
Or strange kinds of discomfort.
If one slaps you on the face,
Do not think it as disgrace;
Merely go and turn your head,
Continue your day instead.
If they sue the shirt off you,
Offer to give your coat too;
Then make you walk a mile,
Go and walk with a smile.
Always love your enemies,
And pray for them on your knees;
Those who persecute and mock,
Time will come for them to talk.
And that time is growing nigh,
They will have no alibi;
Then they will have their reward,
For so long they shunned the Lord.
