YESTERDAYS

It really was a special time, it was a golden age
They really were like giants when they strode upon the stage.
The stage encompassed all the world, the cast included me
And all my friends as extras, we were part of it, you see.
And though the world is slicker now, it seems much drabber too,
Concensus seems to be the key to everything we do.
No new ideas, no fresh ideals, no conflicts good or bad,
Just people all content to be the same as mum and dad.

It really was a special time, a very special place,
Where everything was changing at exilharating pace,
The change affected everything, in every kind of way,
And nobody was sure how things would be from day to day.
And though the pace is calmer now, with time to catch your breath
And though we do not feel that we are racing to our death
There's little to excite us here, and life's become a chore,
With every day a copy of the one that went before

It really was a special time, those days when we were young,
The watchword was excitement and the motive having fun.
Our bodies always full of life would do what they were told,
And no one gave a thought to getting tired or growing old.
But now such worries hold our hearts and minds in clamps of steel,
We hardly dare to think our thoughts, we hardly dare to feel.
Our minds are closed to new ideas, our eyes refuse to see,
I fear what's changed is not the world, but only you and me.
