For the hero who didn't come home back yetHe sailed to boundless stormy blue ocean In a warship beyond my eyes could imagine Promised me to be back home last winter Waved me good bye at the farewell harbour Ship vanished away across farthest horizon I know he loves me and his great mission He was my Dad, a guardian for a nation Peace loving warrior for faraway war zone We enjoyed riding along countryside ways Sailed together boats on gloomy rainy days He told me about peace that glows the world rueful cold war that kills all young and old Last Christmas I hoped your visit as usual Mom tells me,it isn't sure of next arrival I am sure of your promises like sun rises Don't hurt my little heart, please be with us Wind! Could you carry this my secret errand Tell him,my young brother hasn't seen his Dad My darling Dad , my hero, we missed you a lot Hard to believe, again you never pay us a visit Without you,Dad, our niche isn't a home anymore I salute you , my brave Dad, this is my last bow I try to make up my alone mind no matter how hard May God protect my sweet Dad in your hollow hand! Swarnapali Liyanage 25/07/2009 ( I wrote this poem as a tribute to our young children who missed their loving Dads, heroes of their lives, lost at the war, but still keep hopes they would visit them any day.) - Vote for this poem -
