View from the new bridge
New bridge unites North and South Rebinds cracked affinity of races May the beams of morning sun heal Dismal lives shivered by the war I rejoice in new view from the bridge Without a foul smell of decaying corpse; Or wretched shrills of fearful children; No grim trembles by explosions anymore Innocent refugees crowded in camps; Look! They're marching back to homes Don't let their elegant dreams fade; Let's rebuild our regime through ardour Survivors renovate untimely ruined homes, Farmers give life to their dying fields, Trees raise canopies covered with blossoms, Birds inspire forlorn lives by their twitter Panorama that I'm viewing from the bridge Like a dramatic painting on a big canvas Of a such glorious paradise we're gifted, May graceful bright hues remain forever About thirty year cold cruel combat, It's over; but claimed umpteen souls Than halving same one land to pieces; Let's bond our hands to walk as before! Swarnapali Liyanage 28/07/2009 (I wrote this poem based on separation of the land in Sri Lanka, an island in Indian ocean, the war started between Sinhalese and Tamil nationalities. About thirty year old cruel war claimed hundred thousands of innocent lives of citizens from both the nationalities. I consider this poem as a respect for the innocent lives who sacrificed their lives for the war and as well as a tribute to the survivors who understand unity is the powerful weapon to be armed with to live in harmony. The war was officially ended in last May 2009.)
