Solemnity in BerlinA historic city that symbolised east and west, Once put super-powers to the nuclear test, It instilled mistrust and an atmosphere of fear, Now the new phoenix is both grand and austere, Through the Brandenburg Gate, hails monuments so grey, A walk along Erbertstrase, a myriad of concrete stelae, Forever etched in the memories, all those who see, Imprinted for all time, never again set free, The Jewish memorial, a walk through tragic times, Its underground display, tales of inhuman crimes, In awe inspiring silence, the timeline read by all, Of Jewish persecution inscribed on that wall,   We walk along, reading as if we were alone, Hundreds of people, no emotions yet shown, Each person caught in a trance of disbelief, Taking in the accounts of unspeakable grief, Through that room of Dimensions, we're lost in thought, And enter a recent world, that humanity forgot, In their personal accounts, of their fate, they are sure, From an innocent child, her plea for life on the floor, Through the solemn silence, you can hear people cry, The sound of the tacit question, asking themselves why?, You may take photos, however it feel sacrilegious they say, Just leave the history here take only feelings away Man's inhumanity to man often knows no bounds, Man's cry of despair often carries no sounds, We must learn to respect life, as precious and pure, And treat everyone as your brother, that much I'm sure.
