I spied one day the steeple of a Church
So high above on it's lofty perch
From miles,upon an unkempt hill
One could see the spire still
The peoples' voices sang about
Peace throughout the land without a doubt
Revised from" "Let no man be denied!"
There were songs of love and fellowman
When in came a drunk with trembling hand
He staggered up and through the door
Finally collapsing on the Alder floor
The congregation shouted as if one voice
"Remove this man so we can rejoice!"
But up stepped one man with a loving heart
With a tithe to give this drunk a start
Years passed: The deed was long forgot
A new Church was to be built upon the spot
A wealthy man stepped forth with a generous gift
"I was down the Church gave me a lift!"
Today the Church stands for all to see
And the peoples' voices come to me
In one voice they all would sing--some cried
The words: "Let no man be denied!"
