Lands and waits.
In due time the bearer party
Transfer the coffin,
Flag draped,
At the slow march.

The Town stops.
Frock coated,
Cane in hand,
Top hat doffed,
He leads the cortege
Through the lined streets.
There are some tears,
Some flowers thrown,
The salute given.
At St Bartholomew's
The church bell tolls.
Onward
At the proper place he rejoins
And the cortege moves on.
Another British soldier
Is home
on his shield, in valour
From cruel Afghanistan
