Heavenward Bound

Sometimes thoughts that I pen
Do not reflect my heart within
Inspired by a message I hear
Truths ring out loud and clear

Areas where I need to change
Only the Spirit can rearrange
Sinful nature gets in the way
Battle of my will day by day

Boat set on autopilot going west
To change course and head east
Requires ongoing forced steering
Facing resistance and very tiring

My willpower eventually fades
By the way I am humanly made
Letting go is a key I am missing
Path to joy and His full blessing

I am born again from above
Accepted by His infinite love
Life is a journey year to year
Forever with my Savior near

Before life on earth is done
Eternal beginning has begun
Earthly body will be buried
Soul to heaven He will carry

Fresh thinking all the time I long
God's desire for man all along
Talking to God like a close friend
Living an abundant life to the end

Viewing each day as an adventure
With continuing surprises for sure
Through good or bad, to still rejoice
That is what I want to be my choice

Last four stanzas based partly on this quote:

"Being born again from above is a perennial,
      perpetual and eternal beginning;
A freshness all the time in thinking
And in talking and in living,
The continual surprise of the life of God."

from My Utmost for His Highest
