Rogue Poetry

Fibs

As a moppet he was never afraid of the dark,
he never understood that fear.
From the start
he knew this non-specific creature of terror
wasn't real;
It was his mom's attempt
to modify his behavior.
“If you don't behave
the boogeyman will get you.”
He would challenge her and ask,
“What is a boogeyman, mom?”
She could never describe him
nor tell him what the boogeyman
would do to him if caught.
Nevertheless, the threats continued:
“Son, if you misbehave Santa will
fill your stocking with coal.”
Of course, they never happened.
They were fibs but lies just the same.
