As My Heart Could Tell
Lord, It Isn't Me Who'd Squeeze The Trigger (A Lady Cop's Story) song format
Intro:
I.
Arising from an unfinished nap
And grab a towel for the morning bath;
Coffee is fine when I need to rush
To catch the trip of an early bus.
Refrain I:
My life is patched on my apparel;
Compassion kept in a heart of steel.
I can be gentle and, at times, a beast
With a holstered iron tucked in my hip.
Chorus:
Oh Lord! It isn't me who'd squeeze the trigger
Or the one to cuff a culprit's hand.
It's the rule of law that the man is breaking
And the peace and order of a dearest land.
II.
Public Service is my lifestyle;
A taste of glory when I retire.
The prime of life I hope to see
And to stay alive until that day.
Refrain II:
The Tour of Duty is my comfort zone
For the country's sake and not my own.
I don't own a name; I can't use my gender
To excuse myself from taking dangers.
Repeat Chorus:
III.
Life is uncertain at a certain time
When you're chasing after not just petty crimes;
One foot forward with subduing nerve
While the other one upon own's grave.
Refrain III:
There's always peril that lies ahead
When the one who's chased would want you dead.
I would not think twice to pull a gun
When there's no chance for me to run.
Adlib: Using stanza and refrain chords.
Repeat Chorus 2x:
CODA:
Then after each breathtaking task
The bravery is a borrowed mask.
Still I would love to sing and dance
It's my best of shot when the day is done.
fade:
This is originally a poem of the same title that I purposely wrote for a Lady Police Officer who captured my admiration. Not only that she's a dedicated officer but she also sings very well. I have an earnest desire for the same poem to turn into a beautiful ballad and the above arrangement is my simple idea how the song flows. I am finding ways to be in contact with a professional musician.
