NO TEARS IN THIS PROUD INDIAN'S EYES
Drip drip--drip standing in the rain Off in the distance rumblings of a train A dismal day shall it rain into the night? Is there no dying when the sun is shining bright? Rain in showers falling from a darkened sky Yet proudly I stand no tears will I cry Cadaver lays proud so many friends to mourne For his children father's pride were bourne No longer are they Papooses now each fully grown Doug being the eldest is scholarly known Jim the second has his father's rebellious pride Somewhere in the world are adventures to be tried Muggs the youngest take up his father's trade Off to fish in deepest oceans challenged he will wade Chooch Indian Chieftain perched up in the skies A proud strong warrior no tears above he cries Knowing now his sons are raised he may lay down to rest As onlookers lay the lid genteelly softly on his chest Written in the pouring down rain many years ago on the pages of a magazine the ink wet and spreading I was told each of his boys had it made into calligraphy and display in in their homes. May actually be my first written poem.
