Black Manor - II

(... continued from Part I)

The two crooks were suddenly gripped with fear
Did the stranger know what they once did here?
“I have a feeling this guy has been stalking us”
“He knows everything, he's simply mocking us!”
One spoke weakly “Why did you choose this place?”
“Why? It seems to me you're a little pale in the face!”
He unlocked the door and was followed by the crooks
They planned to kill him and exchanged knowing looks
Inside, everything metallic seemed covered by rust
Everything else blanketed by a thick, soft layer of dust
The big guy lit a candle and there was dim light
The punks looked around before starting the fight
Cobwebs waved slowly like drapes in disturbed air
The room had nothing and was completely bare
One of them approached a photo frame on the wall
Then the candle went out, darkness enveloping all

The Black Manor looked innocuous in the light of day
As the detective and the constable were on their way
More complaints of screams were reported last night
Soon circulating would be embellished stories of fright
The duo was alert upon seeing the unlocked door
Inside they noticed two sets of footprints on the floor
Silently they followed them to a room on their right
Inside they were confronted by an unsettling sight
Two men on the floor, limbs rigidly stretched out
That they were both dead, there was not a doubt
Each held his knife tight, seen from taut muscles
But there was no blood or signs of violent tussles
The dead thugs had made the footprints outside
Who or what killed them, if they did not fight?

He ambled over and looked at the stone cold faces
“They were both suspected in pending murder cases”
The detective tried to recall the history of this house
The wealthy man who built it and his beautiful spouse
It had created a stir when they died, man and wife
He in a car bomb, she stabbed to death by a knife
Perpetrators of the crime disappeared without a trace
Several years passed and it remained a cold case
The constable paused in front of the photo frame
He murmured “Schwartz… wasn't that his name?”
The eye brows were the kind one would not forget
Extremely thick and bushy, the two almost met
He had lifeless looking eyes and a long, curved nose
His wide jaws and thin lips made him look bellicose
Malevolent, ill tempered and mean seemed his style
His lips were curved into a somewhat sinister smile
