Ricardo(God's Gift)Spencer was born on June 5, 1985 in Marion, Georgia which is a small town right outside of Atlanta. He moved to Cleveland at the age of 4. He began writing poetry at the tender age of 14 after noticing that his life was too unbearable when his grandfather, who was a very special part of him, passed away and his uncle a few months later. With this struggle, grief, pain and suffering occurring, the poetry got deeper. While attending Martin L. King, Jr. High School in Cleveland, a good friend and fellow poet named Basheer Jones (basheerspeaks.com) inspired him and told him, "your words should be heard worldwide." Ricardo was not just inspired, he inspired others. He inspired his best friend Roosevelt to perform poetry also. That's not it...Ricardo had to become a good speaker and he did so with the help of Timothy Roberts, Sr. the founder and CEO of B.R.I.C.K. (Brotherhood, Respect, Conduct and Knowledge)which is a mentoring and tutoring program for young males. Mr. Roberts was a second father to Ricardo because he made sure Ricardo stayed focused on all his tasks and he treated Ricardo like one of his own. Ricardo graduated from Martin L. King, Jr. High School as number 9 of his class in 2003. He was accepted to 4 of his top 5 schools Morehouse, who was #1; Bowling Green State University, who was #2; Cleveland State University, which was #3 and Kent State University, who was #4. Unfortunately, he did not attend Morehouse College and Bowling Green State University due to financial problems, he did not attend Kent State University because he decided that he wanted to stay close to home. Ricardo now attends Cleveland State University with a 3.271 grade point average and is currently working on a book and a CD which will feature some of his own contemporary poetry. On the road of becoming a good speaker, Ricardo became great and thus became the current president of B.R.I.C.K. and that's just half of his story... |
