Disappearances (from Year 2010)
The vanishing of some things is unexplained
People, vessels are lost in mystery, unresolved,
Becoming common, sometimes, no reason is needed
It is in the daily news: Now you see it. Now you don't
Evident in the death of a friend, the passing of a father -
No one truly gets to preserve anyone for eternity
Witness surprise departures, immediate desertions -
Youth, pets, gadgets, and even places once imagined
They all slip away from one's world so naturally
I know of a woman who could not keep her man;
And of a mother whose children have all ran away
Abandonment, as old as Adam, continues on and on
I bid good-bye to a country, to a lifestyle
It must be tough for a star to let go of fame & fortune
We miss what we have been used to, but we live on
It is a matter of time, and we will disappear
From each other's world as well. Accept the truth in this
Only the image of love is retained as a memory
