The Taxi

Hey I'm not a spring chicken
I've been around the block
Had my share of bad times
My stories they could shock

I left my violent marriage
Ran fast as I could
To another part of the world
Another neighbourhood

I spent some years alone
Just me and my son's
Embarked upon a college course
My life began to run

I made new friends
And I went out
And then one eventful night
I missed my lift, a taxi
But met the love of my life

Someone said "he'll give you a lift"
I said "oh I'm not sure"
But I climbed into his works van
Thinking nothing more

I must have made an impact
An impression was surely made
I saw him I  the nightclub
but him I did evade

But yet he persisted
Eventually I gave in
We spoke for hours on the phone
Had I found "him"?

He cooked for me at his house
I was totally sold
I thought "this one's a keeper"
My heart felt so less cold

We fell in love so quickly
People thought it would not last
We were made for each other
That fact we knew so fast

so many years have passed now
Together still we are
I'm glad I missed my taxi
Unreliable hire car!
