This is our on-line community. This is an open invitation to you, the reader/writer to actively participate
in an open interchange of ideas and impressions. Hopefully, together, we will all become innovators.
If you sign my guestbook, I'll sign yours. I believe its best to be encouraging...we all had to start the writing and learning process somewhere. I have one word to say about negative criticism....UNNECESSARY.
I don't give it, and I will not tolerate it. Everyone has a voice in this world.
Writing is an opportunity to express and develop that voice. A little mutual respect goes a long long way.

I'm a tad bit of a starry-eyed optimist. I would like it if everyone  could get along better.
But at the same time I believe its alright to have a healthy two way discussion...that's invigorating.
Therefore, I do invite helpful, thoughtful criticism.
(Man oh man, I hope I don't sound too controlling...)
I simply  want to feel good about myself and for  others to feel the same when they
go to such a sacred place where their most personal thoughts, wishes are written out.

My wish  for you all  is that writing poetry  and writing become your comfort and your bliss,
as it has become mine.

Thank you for taking your valuable time to stop on by....too bad I can't offer you a cup o' joe,
a sassparilla or some tea!

Cheerio!

The Poet

I make no mistakes when I am writing, in that I say exactly what I mean to say. My poetry may make some people feel uncomfortable, but I do believe that you/we all choose what we feel. No one else can make anyone feel unless it is their choice in the first place. Call it a lesson learned through years of self-examination and everyday living. My Mother read poetry to me in the womb. My first presents were books of poetry. A.A. Milne was on my reading list by First Grade. I read the dictionary for fun. Words were power. Language was beauty. Poetry can be anything I/you/we choose it to be. They are no limits. We set our own frontiers. I write about mostly what I know. I know myself. That is often the best place to begin. Remember, you/me, we are a sum total, nothing can be negated. This is what I have always said, I stand by it and I live by it. Thank you for taking the time to read my poetry. I give all the poets I review careful consideration and do sign Guestbooks. I encourage anyone/everyone who writes poetry to find a local open mic. Its a great chance to hear other poet's styles and and ways of expressing themselves. Poetry Slams provide an incredible chance to hear what kind of exhilarating undiscovered raw talent there is out there in the real world.  2010/JULY Copyright Meloo of Tilt-a-World
Addendum:
I take risks with a lot of what I write. I write directly to the page and go back and edit later. Of course, spellcheck helps. But I usually
have a pretty good  gut feeling for what I want to say. I've noticed some people have been putting disclaimers on their sites. Saying,
this isn't for the very young.  That's alright and that's courteous, but in the back of my mind I think of that old roaring stinker called
political correctness and then I continue down the slippery slope of PTA's and Board of Educations banning certain books or studies from a curriculum...i.e., look those dark-ages folks in Arizona banning all Latino Studies.  Geesh. Anyway, as usual, I digress and am opening my big mouth...but someone's got to do it. Frankly, I like controversy and iconoclastic ideas. So I say, go for it. If someone doesn't like it, then they don't need to read it...end of story.

News

I've been writing directly onto the "page" lately and then coming back to edit later.
It has forced me to think more quickly and succinctly. I have also tried not to use
the words like and as, as often. Makes for more inventive metaphors, hopefully.
Monday nights we attend open mics at The Show and Tell Gallery in Portland Oregon.
These readings are pod cast on the web. You can hear me, Buddy and many of my other
friends. I remember once buying some audio tapes of famous poets like Sexton, Plath,
Hughes, Roethke, William Carlos Williams, Miguel Pinero and hearing their voices. It was
as if they were speaking to me in that very room. Listening to people perform
adds an entire dimension to their work. If you have the opportunity to get out
and go to an open mic, do it. It might make all the difference in your work. You
will be exposed to other people's styles. You will be able to hone your own "voice."
We met a poet who travels all over the world and makes a living off of his art.
He never stays in one place very long...the poetry keeps him moving, so to speak...
ah, too many puns. Make poetry into the living art that it is and go out and read it
every opportunity that you get or make. :-) Melissa
