On The Cards
My latest venture is 'Panchatantra' in verse+prose form
for children and for the child-in-you.
Written in Sanskrit in 200 BC, Panchatantra is the oldest
known collection of short stories for children ever to be
written on earth.
Through animals, these fables teach children that harmony
and unity are the two greatest qualities man should possess
to be integrated with nature and fellow-beings.
It teaches about nurturing relationships for social security
and personal wealth within the unwritten laws of society.
The Panchatantra (five treatises) has 84 stories in five volumes
representing the five strategies.
1. The Loss of Friends.......Mitrabedha................34 stories
2. The Gaining of Friends...Mitra Sampraptu.......10 stories
3. Crows and Owls.............Kokilikeye...............18 stories
4. Loss of Gains.................Labdha parashe........12 stories
5. Rash Action...................Parikshith Karke.......10 stories
I have completed the first canto 'The Loss Of friends' in which
27 out of the 34 fables have been composed. I felt some of the
stories were not suitable for children and have thus chosen not
to write them.
I am in the process of writing the 7th fable of the second canto
'The Gaining Of Friends'
