Abu Lateef is a Muslim born in America of mixed
Yoruba and Djola African ancestry.At age seventeen
he enlisted in the US Army becoming a Sergeant
eight days before deployment to Viet Nam. He was
honorably discharged at age twenty. His free style
poetry reflects his experiences in war, love
and Islam.His verses do not follow traditional
Western form and like him they are revolutionary.
He hurls verses as though on a
'Search and Destroy Mission' ...
using his words as hand grenades
blowing apart and shattering taboos
about discussing religion, politics,
and race.
