Scar Tissue

Scar Tissue

Once my heart was sweet and true
I didn't see the worst in you
I heard two wrongs don't make a right
So I pined away the cold dark night

I rocked my babies and hoped to see
A change of heart from you to me
Disappointment is all that came
Until I despised your very name

Yet I held on in bleakest hope
I used all my strength to cope
Years of toil abuse and pain
Not a thread of love or gain

In my shame I've cried my last
For my heart is changing fast
No longer will its softness shine
A harder heart instead is mine

This one thing I've learned is real
You can't tell a heart what to feel
With abuse it will take issue
Now my heart is all scar tissue
