THE FOUR SEASONS
I; said the Spring will teach you of birth
Renewal of life and growth of the earth
The beginning of days when a baby is born
That quickly pass by like the dew of the morn
I; said the Summer will teach you in truth
Of the sunshine of life in the exuberance of youth
The length of your days that seem forever to go on
Is the time of your strength that will quickly be gone
I; said the Autumn will teach you of reaping
The harvest of abundance in mists that are weeping
The shortening of days and leaves that are falling
Like life's fading glory in the winds that are calling
I; said the Winter will teach you of death
In the covering of my snow and my cold frosty breath
The ending of days as now you are old
And the grave beckons to you darkly and cold
I; said the Year will teach of seasons that are four
Now they are ended and will not return anymore
The number of my days are counted and gone
Now I must go for time has swiftly passed on
Learn you then pupils and know of the reasons
To study the lesson of the four seasons
Your birth and strength and a reaping that is coming
And icy fingers that are reaching in a cold death wind that is humming
