I'm sorry if you were offended that I didn't really notice you.
I'm sorry that unlike some others in our company
I was not raising an eyebrow,
or watching sureptiscously
every
five
seconds,
out of the corner of my eye.
I would especially like to apologize for
not raising and eyebrow,
when you kissed your girlfriend,
or letting out a huff,
or sucking at my teeth.
For SHAME!
Dear lesbians on the bus:
I'm truly not ignorant of you.
I am not bigot,
nor will I be your persecutor.
I am an ally.
I wish you dears,
you young lovers,
all the worldly happiness you can find,
for surely,
human though you are,
you deserve it as much as I.
I want for you all the happiness love has to give.
The hardships to test it, and try it to true.
The goodness of love for comfort, companionship.
And I want for you the will to grasp it;
Wrestle to have it,
blindness to accept the form,
and love in return to keep it.
Dear lesbians on the bus:
I'm glad you were above the sneers,
the teeth sucking and the raised eyebrows.
But, I am perplexed that you noticed me,
not really noticing you.
Had they spoken against you,
I would have stood with you.
Dear lesbians on the bus:
I wasn't noticing you.
However, I was watching them.
Keep your love my friends.
It will ALWAYS mean more than "them.”
