Precious Memories

I miss the sound of the screen door shutting,
The laughter down the hall,
I miss the sweet summer months,
And apple pies in the fall.

I miss Grandfathers teasing,
And Grandmothers sarcastic smile,
I miss all of those happy moments
That made my childhood worthwhile.

I miss the hugs an kisses,
Sock monkeys and time.
I miss the dreams and hope they gave me
To fill this young child's mind.

Many many years have since come and gone,
And I am now where they use to be,
a grandparent with a keen ear,
listening for the patter of little feet.

And I cannot help to wonder,
when my soul is set free,
will my grandchildren look back as I did,
with precious memories of me.
