For all mankind is not so certain,
As those who have surrendered,
To these hard choices made most curious,
Circumstances that fate has rendered.
We hold our sanity as a constant anchor,
Lest we drift alone across uncharted seas,
Or sink beneath the weight all our fears,
Which of a thousand woes will bring us peace.
Upon the bridge we take our place alone
Of all the beasts we bear God's form,
We alone are conscious in this drama,
The knowledge of the coming storm.
When earth's foundations heave and shudder,
When waves shall mountains overtake.
While fire roars through field and forest,
And every monument shall surely quake.
Certain or uncertain destinies await,
And all surrender to the word unspoken,
As sudden peace shall surely settle,
When all the world is still and broken.
