Tonight the kids came over with some surprises. Ryan was a "Wow". First time I saw him since a Hospital visit. He stood next to me. He is eye to eye as big as his brother. He is sixteen and came to the airport to pick up his girlfriend. Quite a budding love story. I know at this age they do not always last. These kids met on a oceanatic study in Californai. States apart. She wrote in her facebook "I just met the man of my dreams." He sent a post back, "Do I know him?" We call that Donlan humor. We all seem to have it. They fly to each others homes to see each other. Valentine's day, Ryan is a hockey player. Their image is they always are polite and wear suits in public. Ryan in Seattle dressed up and his girlfriend in California dressed formal. They cooked the same meal and miles apart shared a toast to their feelings. Does it get any more romantic than that? The parents approve.
Brent is getting ready to graduate. The kids brought with them Brent's 2015 Varsity baseball Senoir program. Some quotes from Brent:
What have you learned playing baseball at WHS?
I have learned to use my individual ability to help out the team
What is your most memorable WHS baseball moment?
I will alway remembeer going to the 2014 State Championship in Pasco
What are the plans for your future?
Now Brent has told me he is playing his last game. Highly recruited he his giving up sports. Is that not unique for education. This is the first time ths was announced.I will be studying pre-med at WSU! Usually sports come first.
A message to my parents:
Thank you Mom and Dad for all the support you have provided for me thoughout sports and everything else. You are the best parents a kid could ask for and I am so grateful. Ending my career in high school is bittersweet--
for both you and me; Knowing that I always have your support makes me secured for whatever lies ahead.
Love you both,
Brent
From Mom and Dad,
Some highlights:
As you end your time in organized baseball there are so many baseball related events that make you the person you are today
When you were the smallest player on your t-ball team. You tearfully insisted you would never be as tall or as fast as you sister. Today last we measured you were 6ft two and sis was 5ft 3, although she may still be faster.
When you fell off the bench and began to cry. We told you to shake it off and you stood up shaking your entire body
When you were still the smallest but picked first round in the West Little league draft. You started as a catcher and swung at everything and had the least strikeout on the team.
When you hit a home run against your best friend Paul and very next inning he hit a home run off you
The day you and Paul collided going after a outfield ball and you cried when Paul broke his arm.
When you and Micah played the entire outfield because there were only eight player on your team
When the foul ball imploded in your face and it seemed you would not play again. You took it like a man and returned a year later to play in the Alaska tournament. You were greeted by the team with chants the legent is back.
When WHS finished fourth in State. Last game you went 3 for 3 with a double and two runs batted in. You are not a quitter.
When you hit it over the fence at Dad's high school with the whole family watching.
When you danced the "Whip" "The Nay Nay""The Dougie" and the "Bernie' between innings with Micah.
When the hill of students watching the game were all chanting, "Downtown Donlan"
A bit of a sidenote. As well as sports Brent and his friend do U-tubes. One has sponsers and eighteen million hits. He acts and directs. But the best is called "Take me on!" A parady down when some watching his video made reference that they might be gay. His humor and his friends all athletes football and baseball worked a skit with him. It can be found on utube, has 10,000 hits. Can be found on kvaf clan utube. The KVAF offical song. It is halarious if you can find it.
