TO MY DEAR POETRY FRIENDS: MONIQUE, JANET, GEORGE, SANDY, TERRY, ELLIE, KATHY, DORIS,KATHRYN AND ROBERT. Seven years ago I was diagnosed with glaucoma, and my eyesight, particularly my peripheral vision, was becoming progressively worse. My dear Milt, who was a retired optometrist,took me to see glaucoma and cataract specialist Dr. Douglas Grayson. During the next few months Dr. Grayson performed cataract surgery, laser surgery and trabeculectomies (glaucoma surgery)in both my eyes and Milt was constantly at my side to help me through it all. Milt passed away four years ago, but I continued to go for regular eye checkups to Dr. Grayson. His glaucoma surgery had lowered the pressure in both my eyes to below 10 so the glaucoma could no longer progress -- to the point where my eyesight measures 20/25 and I no longer need eyeglasses or contact lenses. Now I am also being treated by a dermatologist, for what he diagnoses as a pre-cancer condition for which he prescribes a chemotherapy skin cream. and various other skin creams which I repeatedly became allergic to. Before he left for vacation he prescribed various skin lotions and I was allergic to all of them to the point where my eyes were constantly itching and the skin around my eyes was drooping -- I looked and felt like a monster. Finally back from vacation, he told me that I was to blame because I ALLOWED the chemotherapy cream to get into my eyes (which of course I DID NOT DO). He gave me a prescription for eye cream, which I did not fill, but took with me to my visit to Dr. Grayson the next day.I was no longer afraid, because I knew that YOUR PRAYERS, along with DR. GRAYSON'S EXPERTISE AND KINDNESS AND MY DEAR MILT SMILING DOWN ON US FROM HEAVEN WOULD TAKE CARE OF ME. Dr. Grayson told me that all my eye tests were fine, not to take any more medication for my eyes or skin for a couple of weeks, except for the allergy eye drops he had prescribed all along)and not to worry about anything because I am fine and would look and feel better in no time at all. He smiled when I blessed him and told him that he was AMAZING -- guess he hears it from patients all the time. So again my friends, may God bless you for all your prayers and I will continue to pray for you -- with one additional special prayer for our beloved friend Sandy, who is truly a SPECIAL ANGEL.
