The Painters on the Beach
I'll sit today and paint
a beach scene that I've saved
far away from here instead
I'll sketch a Fellow Traveler
straw hat upon her head
a blue plaid dress
easel on the sand
palms swaying in the breeze
painting the same beach
gazing out to sea
we can not see her face
like the ocean
it remains a mystery
her legs tucked underneath
her pallet full
not a soul in sight
her painting is the same
as mine
except that in the detail
she paints another artist in the sand
I think it looks like me.
