NEWS: About a year ago, Alex Brown unintentionally committed suicide. She was a high school girl from Texas, about to go off to college, when one morning she drove to school and never returned home. Alex had been texting while she was driving, and she had failed to put her seat belt on. The consequence was that she veered off the road into a telephone pole and was flung thirty feet from her vehicle. She was found by her mother, lying on the side of the deserted road. Since her untimely death, her parents have created the Remember Alex Brown Foundation, to spread the word about the growing epidemic that is texting and driving. Take the pledge at rememberalexbrownfoundation.com and help her parents and little sister spread their story. Remember Alex Brown. Don't text and drive. Buckle up. Take the pledge.

ABOUT: I started writing poetry at age 14. When I heard about poetrypoem.com,I knew I had to show my talent to the world. But I was sick of the froo-froo poems about pretty things and nothing but happiness. The kind of poems that should be trimmed in pink frilly lace. I wanted the world to see real poetry. Poetry about the true pain, joy and sadness of the world. Many people would criticize my work, saying that poetry is meant to comfort, but they're wrong. Poetry is art in writing. It is meant not just to comfort, but also to inform, entertain, open eyes to the real world. It is not just a pretend world of butterflies and purple ponies. My poetry is real poetry. If you don't like it, tough. Being a poet is no easy job. I do not write poetry to make people happy. It is important to make people happy, so that they actually read the poetry, but I don't write it just for people to be happy. I don't even write it to make me happy. I write poetry because I am happy, and that makes all the difference in the world.
