smallsteps
ramblings and things

Whiskey The Cat

He’s cheerful and friendly
Courteous and polite
In all honesty he brings us
So much joy and delight.
He’s so self effacing l
Tries not to intrude
And perish the thought
He could ever be rude,

But, Whiskey the Cat’s
From a broken home,
Nothing to do but
Wander and roam.
His human’s new lover
Just doesn’t want a cat
So he’s kept outside
And that’s the end of that.

They put food by the door.
Just twice a day
I think they are hoping
He’ll just go away.
But, he’s surviving
Although he’s living rough
A quiet cat of spirit
Confident and tough.

He’s matted and scruffy
But he doesn’t seem to care
So long as he can spend
Time in our patio chair.
He greets us each morning
With a cheerful little purr
As if just to check its ok
For him still to sleep there.

He’s a philosophical sort
Is young Whiskey the Cat
Accepts his lot and seems
Quite happy with that.
He’s an example to us all
For he doesn’t have a lot
But Whiskey the Cat seems so
Content with the little he’s got.
