Uncertainty of Love

I relearned a valuable lesson
From a youngster just today
When he let go of his balloon
And the wind took it away.

It slipped out of his fingers
And slowly climbed above
Which prompted me to think about
The uncertainty of love.

Yes, the lesson was so very clear
A grim but well-known fact
That if we let love slip away
It's so hard to get back.

So, nurture its very presence
Then tighter to it cling
And not be like that little boy
Who let go of the string.
