Poetic Verses
Afraid of Rejection
As we burst from the line
And try to keep pace
In a life that would seem
Like a marathon race.
It becomes for us tiresome
That so often we fail
And wonder how long
Can our spirits prevail.
Then feeling quite hopeless
We fall to our knees
And in our frustration
Seek only to please.
The ones closest to us
Who oft make us cry
Whose approval we covet
Yet ask ourselves why.
But afraid of rejection
We hide what we feel
And cling to believing
Their affection is real.
Then find ourselves falling
Still further behind
In a race we can't win
If we choose to be blind.
And try to keep pace
In a life that would seem
Like a marathon race.
It becomes for us tiresome
That so often we fail
And wonder how long
Can our spirits prevail.
Then feeling quite hopeless
We fall to our knees
And in our frustration
Seek only to please.
The ones closest to us
Who oft make us cry
Whose approval we covet
Yet ask ourselves why.
But afraid of rejection
We hide what we feel
And cling to believing
Their affection is real.
Then find ourselves falling
Still further behind
In a race we can't win
If we choose to be blind.
