Truth

When truth becomes so obvious
Why do we opt for lies
Almost as if we live our lives
With blinders on our eyes?

Could it be that to accept it is
Much easier to face
Though the notion of denial is
An even worse disgrace?

Yes, the courage to face the truth at times
Can be quite hard to do
But is self-deception in the end
A lesser of the two?

No, I would rather bear the pain
Even if it is severe
Than find false comfort in a lie
When truth has been made clear.

So always tell me honestly
What bears upon your mind
That I would never have to guess
Or feign myself as blind.

That said, I will not be the one
To fall for blatant lies
For I refuse to live my life
With blinders on my eyes.
