 Contemporary poetry by Dan Donlan

THUNDER AND LIGHTNING SOMEWHAT FRIGHTENING

The kids on the sidelines warming up
Prior game was about to end
Floating black clouds shut out the sun
For the time being it had daylight on the run
The thunder came no time to count to eight
For above the stadium flashes of lightning wait
The referees and coaches did a great job
Kids scurried to safety on the jog
Whistles blew and the kids were rushed to cover
There in the downpour we all did hover.
Suddenly as it came the field in bright light
Lady Sun was winning showing her fight
Thirty minutes we waited for the game to replay
In the sense of safety coaches did it right this day
And yes as the game renewed the home team did win
And high above me my favorite lady did grin
