~*~ A great mythological story
Please don’t miss any part of the story!
~*~

Daksha, the patriarch and the Lord of firmament
Married Veerini the goddess of the cosmic winds
And got fifty nine constellations as his daughters.
He got his daughtersmarried  to various gods.
Daksha through severe penance won a boon from
The Mother of universe, that She should be born
As a daughter to him. Accordingly Sati was born.

When Sati came of an age, she adored Lord Shiva
And for Sati’s sake Shiva, the Lord of the universe
Manifested as an ascetic on the mountain of Kailas,
And He was attended by hosts of gods,
Demigods and by the divine sages!
Sati told Daksha that she would become wife of Siva
Daksha how ever gave away Sati in marriage to Siva
Even though he disliked the ways of the Lord of Kailas!
* * *
Once Siva held a conference in the cool atmosphere
Of the snow clad silver gray mountain of the Kailas.
When discussions were going on Daksha entered Kailas
He being the Patriarch and the father-in-law of Lord Siva,
All gods stood up there and paid their respects to Daksha.
But Siva being the ageless Lord would not bow down
Before the aged Patriarch even though he happened
To be His own father in law!
Then Daksha, who grew angry, and maddened
With rage, began to scream out abuses on Lord
"Oh it is a shame and disgrace, I gave my daughter
In marriage to Thee, Thou art a wandering beggar with
Ashes of cremation ground smeared all over on Thy body.
Thy dress is strange; ways are vagrant, lacked manners"
He roared in anger and swore vengeance, but Siva ignored
Those abuses and remained calm by His gracious nature!
Shiva was aware that paying obeisance to Daksha would
Shorten the life span of Daksha, as Shiva was the over lord!

After some time Daksha arranged for a great sacrifice
To be performed on earth by the ocean at a golden centre.
All gods and goddesses were specially invited except
Shiva and Sati, his daughter, whom he would put to shame.
Fifty nine daughters of Daksha and their lords of Heaven
Wearing lustrous garments and jewels came in advance!
When other gods were hastening to reach the place of sacrifice
Sati had seen their unusual rush and learnt about the sacrifice.
Through her mind’s eye She saw Daksha’s golden palace.
As it was her child hood home She wanted to go there and
Requested for permission of Siva, pleading that a daughter
Needs no invitation to go to her own father’s house.
Then Shiva said, it was quite improper to go there uninvited
And pointed out that she was not loved by her father Daksha,
He also added "O Sati, O my soul mate, your father hates me,
As you are my wife you will not be welcomed there by him."
Then with tears in her eyes Sati said "my Lord, I long to see
My mother and sisters, let me go." At last Siva gave his consent
As He would never bear to see sadness on her beautiful face.
Goddess Sati, who was then accompanied by her maid servants,
And Nandi,the cosmic bull,went
To Her father’s hall of sacrifice!
