 A Collection of Words

5 Tanka ( falcon's hunger)

Restless draining dreams
Rouse the raptor from her rest
Searches for her dove
Skimming over hills and vales
Overlooking emptiness

Flat plains grasses wave
Sigh and whisper in the wind
Scarlet poppies sway
Subtle dancers graceful moves
Bend and nod among the weeds

Hungry Falcon soars
Watching movement far below
Sees a timid dove
Beats her wings once then descends
Like an arrow finds her mark

Waxing moon rises
Hunger drives the bird of prey
Onward to her meal
Open wings embrace the night
Downward swoops to eat your heart

Soaring spirit dives
Whispered call she must attend
Sacrifice of blood
Binds the falcon to one hand
Grateful claws grip crimson gloves
