Blind him and make him headless,
O Night, the serpent with the pungent breath!
Strike from his head the wolf's two eyes,
and dash the thief against a post!
Those oxen that are yours, O Night, with sharpened horns and
rapid pace, transport us safe to-day o'er difficulties everywhere
Uninjured in our bodies may we pass through succeeding night,
and let malignity fail to pass, as men without a boat the depth!
O Night! Cause the man to vanish, who plans to do us injury
If dealing treasure thou hast come to-day, O highly favored Night
Cause thou us to enjoy it all so that this may not pass away!
If bringing sweet love and auspicious dreams, O highly blissful Night
Cause thou us to enjoy them in peace so that our lives will be fruitful!
Do thou entrust us to Dawn, O Night.
And may Dawn deliver us to Day,
to do the righteous deeds by all of us
to enjoy fruits of peaceful living here!
Day may deliver us to thee sinless,
O glorious Night, to enjoy thy bliss!
