 Sugar
Refined crystals of sweet delight;
Added to make foods taste right.
A spoonful here, a spoonful there;
Lulls my sweet tooth, I just don't care.
Something this good can't be good for me;
Turning from the facts, I don't wish to see.
Energy surges in every bite, winding me tight;
Those refined crystals of sweet delight.
The high is quickly met with a responding low;
Demanding another fix, even though I know.
My body tries to balance my blood sugar level;
Rising up within me is that sugar craving devil.
Devouring candy bars, ice cream, and cakes;
The ups and downs take a toll, for heavens sakes.
Restricting my sugar intake makes me want to fight;
Those refined crystals of sweet delight.

Today I was grasped by the powerful sugar cane
concoctions of comfort. The battle continues...
