He will not turn you awayThere's no need to sleep on a bed of nails, Nor crawl on knees from London to Wales, Bowing endlessly in traditional ritual, Nor performing rites or acts so spiritual. There's no need to wash continually, Nor cryonic storage that lasts eternally, Or self chastening which makes life miserable, Or giving all away in an act so charitable. For my problem is deep inside of me, Its sin, which mars my life continually. Pride – where I reckon I'm good enough, Greed – always wanting more and more stuff, Lust – Enticed desiring pleasures more, The list goes on, I don't want to bore. Yes, when I examine the inner me, I am ashamed at my sin's variety. Since Christ can forgive a crucified thief Whose last gasp plea brought eternal relief, I am so glad that my plight he will see, And provide forgiveness, hearing my plea, For I cannot dispute this fact of life, I am a sinner who wields no knife That can cut this blackness out of me, Nor earn God's welcome into eternity. Christ calls and says come, repent today, Be assured, He will not turn you away, And when you agree that on Calvary Christ's blood was shed to set you free; Free from judgment that otherwise would fall, Free to enter God's eternal banquet hall, For its only Christ's sacrificial blood, That saves, washing away sins black black mud. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A prayer for you Lord God of Heaven and Earth, I agree that I am a sinner too. I agree that I will never be good enough to enter your heaven. Please forgive me and cleanse me from my sin Through the sacrifice of Jesus on Calvary. Now I want to follow your ways. Please Lord God guide me until I meet you in eternity. Amen Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem |
