 Investments

My retirement is fast approaching, time passes quickly.
My broker tells me I'm no where near ready; he is right.
I see my investments squirreled away for so many years
Evaporate like a water puddle on the hot desert floor.
The moth and rust do destroy, as the savings dwindles;
Forcing me to see my investments with some other eyes.

Giving away of the mountain stashed in my bank account
To my daughter, helping her deal with being a single mom.
My grandson becomes my focal point, seeing his future now;
My investments were not for retirement, but for this moment.
Able to be there for my family when the need reared it's head;
I see my investment grow when I look into my grandson's eyes.

My treasure in no longer in a storehouse, waiting for my leisure;
Instead, it is invested in the lives of my loved ones, active and alive.
I smile at my past plans for those golden years, the folly I can see;
I would be happy working with my hands, creating until my dying day.
Chop up that rocking chair of relaxation, no big screen TV for me;
DJ tells me “I love you, Pawpaw”, I am happy with my investments.
