Ring Around the Moon
On December first, here in the Virginia hills;
A beautiful phenomena appeared in the clear night sky.
The moon was directly overhead, completely full;
Distinctly encircling it was a ring of white light.
This circle was taking up a quarter of the night sky;
I was compelled to continue to look up for a long while.
There was a chill in the air that made my spine shiver;
Or was it the awesome beauty of God's created scene.
The weather man explained it as upper level ice crystals;
Responding to the TV station's rash of calls with questions.
I just know that I saw something breathtakingly inspiring;
Whatever it was, it captured the attention of folks in our area.
Yesterday, everyone I met asked the same question of me;
“Fred, did you see that full moon last night? Did you see it?”
Amid all the high tech clamor, capturing our town's attention
Was one of God's simple graces, a ring around the moon.
