PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR

                          Freud taught me that
I'm still at the oral stage.
                          I mistrusted Erikson.
                          Found out from Jung
that I was missing a mask.
                          Learned from Rollo May
                           that I had no will
From Maslow that my basic needs
                           were unsatisfied
                          so how could I become
                           a self-actualized person?
                          I wouldn't stay
                           in Skinner's box.
                          And Watson's Little Albert
                           was afraid of me because
I wore a white rabbit coat.
I took the Edward's Personal Profile Test
and discovered that I needed to be
                           a disorderly, masochistic,
                           nymphomaniac.

                           Abnormal Psych
                            was enlightening.
                           My phobias didn't distress me
                            too much,
                            and everyone's neurotic
                           But when I won the
"Who's got more faces than Sybil" contest
(the winner received an "A" for the course)
                            I cried.
And changed my major to English.

                           Now I write poetry.

                                                 Annette Wexler, 1980
