THAT BOY WAS MEI know warmth of flame and I know cold Remember the poor boy in the house? The one ignored with plywood boarded windows I lived in that house my sister and I The boy you teased over dressed each winter That boy was me and I remember Dad was never home drinking Mom at work I lighted the furnace every night after school Then froze in blankets with my sister Lipton soap and candles lit nightly So don't take what I say so lightly It is 18 degrees poor are sleeping outside They are cold and hungry suffering in poverty Mondays Value Village sells 99 Cent specials tags I care less about Value Village If it were me I'd give these clothes to the needy Monday I'm buying every special tag I can find I can't be at every Value Village Last year I gave my wife a porcelain Collector doll It had been in the attic all year This year donated Toys for Tots for some dear Giving has been never more important than this year Costco had some toys I added this year the Executives resigning if they get less than $500,000 I am your boss as taxpayer I accept your resignation They need people on the streets to hand out clothing That I am taking to the drive to donate this year It should not be the year of the greedy but the needy Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
