 ramblings and things

Punctuality

The elderly man with the stiffening back
Struggles to walk erect.
Side glances at his shop windowed image
Show him the effect.
The Nordic pole he clasps in one hand
Give him needed support
Until aching muscles warm and relax
To move with more comfort.
In his mind he marches ramrod straight
As in his regimental days;
As his pace quickens so as to be on time
A hangover from those ways.
Sunshades worn over decateracted eyes
Help him deal with the light
Increased sensitivity being a small price
For much improved sight.
His destination appears in view ahead;
He is very nearly there
With almost military timing and precision,
With five minutes to spare.
And the elderly man with stiffening back
Knows he may have to wait
But has kept his side of the arrangement
Not having arrived late.
