Classical Music
a long morning under the sheets
followed by another equally late night
when I eventually make it into bed
I stay awake with my bed-side lamp lit up
listening to classical music on the radio
I usually decide to switch on the air-con
above my pillowed head
not because it's hot
but in silly hope
gentle humming will induce my sleep
even my dog is unsure
if he's supposed to be awake or not
most days I tend to rise slowly
like stale bubbles of lemonade
a familiar taste
washed up in my mouth these days
