Poetic-Verses
"Maggie Flood"
I heard that you was a tom boy, in your formative years
Your daddy was a carter, the only man that you feared.
You was raised in Clare street, that ran on to Scotland road,
The eldest of nine children, from the stories I have been told;
At nineteen you was married, to your childhood sweetheart,
Who was conscripted into the army, to give us all a better start.
I cannot imagine what you went through, couldn't't even hazard a guess,
Christmas time coming around ,and still your face I miss.
You worked so hard to keep us, you was a hard nut to crack,
There is not a day goes by, that I yearn for you to come back.
I have never tried to judge you, you did what had to be done,
It seems no matter how old we get, we all still miss our mum.
From the eldest in Australia, to the youngest who still sleeps in your room,
You gave us some treasured memories, that we can all take to our tomb.
For myself I can say, you lavished everything on me you could,
You was a strong hard headed woman, and i love you "MAGGIE FLOOD";
Your daddy was a carter, the only man that you feared.
You was raised in Clare street, that ran on to Scotland road,
The eldest of nine children, from the stories I have been told;
For myself I can say, you lavished everything on me you could,
You was a strong hard headed woman, and i love you "MAGGIE FLOOD";
