 Erstwhile Endymion

Body bathed in sunshine, gently dried by wayward winds
Bare feet in warm sand, I feel magnified by life's lens
The whole world sees the real me, my blowing curly hair
With eyes forever to the horizon, just to see what's there....

I'd rather play in seaside sand, despite my advancing age
Gone long ago is my ability to strut upon life's stage
I hold tightly to the day, knowing the curtain is falling
But I will be okay as long as Jenny's voice is calling....

The delta dappled in golden sun, the sea in argent flames
Hidden in the warming sand, countless forgotten names
I fill my lungs in deepest breath, acrid aroma of salt air
As Jenny and I stroll along among petrels gathered there....

As I am leaving, I'm sure to regret that some friends aren't there
So I could say to each a warm goodbye before I climb the stair
The one whose steps lead to far away places we cannot ever know
Across soothing sands my Jenny and I will trudge so very slow

We'll be all that's left in our universe, wrapped in silent sound
Her blue eyes still sparkling, her skin smooth, slightly browned
As I begin my final flight with Jenny wrapped in golden glow
I'll breathe a few aching poignant words....
'My Jenny, I must go'......
