Poetic-Verses

a Newer New Year

The day started relatively hectic, like most of my days,
Some say “I bring it on myself, being set in my ways;
The decision was to buy a goose! And have all the family around;
Our children and their children, and my mother-in-law who's “sound”!

At four o'clock we set off, it was getting pretty cold,
Called in to Tony and Susie's, on our way back home,
 To Find out what was happening, weather staying in. or going out!
 You know how it is !Got lost in friendship, ordered an Indian meal to take out;

There was Biyani and Tikka ,chicken and some lamb,
Chutneys and some popadom`s, even  plain and kema Nan!
Tony and I had the lions share, it looked liked we had never been fed!
Washed it down gently, with the finest roughest red!

At about 9.30 “Draiper” showed up, keyboard under his arm,
This new years eve was hotting up, it was getting rather warm!
We sang songs from yester year, songs from our youth,
 We  even sang a tribute to “the man” from old DELUTH.

Just at the stroke of twelve, a strange thing it did stir!
For as well as our music, another sound came from out of know were!
That haunting sound like no other , “Bagpipes” playing in the night
We all went outside to take a look, like a moths drawn to a light.

Not a hundred yards before us , frost laying thickly on the ground,
Was a piper standing in the middle of the street, playing this mystical haunting sound.
for auld acquaintance were not forgot, in peace we linked arms there and then.
This NEW YEARS EVE, was our best so far, this year of 2010.
